Hi, I’m Prime!

That's me on the end there. Number 151.

I'm an okay skater, certified personal trainer, and Anti-Overkill roller derby coach that helps athletes find the perfect balance between practices, training, and living their lives.

Or I was.

Iron Octopus Fitness was the repository for all the things that I learned as a roller derby athlete trying to balance league work, parenting duties, entrepreneurship, and all the other things that humans do. I still stand behind EVERYTHING that still exists on this website but, the truth is, it became a lot to… well… balance. So I did what I teach others to do, I made adjustments.

And one of those adjustments was to close the door on Iron Octopus Fitness and open the door to other things. Things that filled my cup and helped me maintain MY balance.

Balance CAN exist. But it’s not a constant. You can’t assume that what you did today will work tomorrow or the next day or the day after that. It’s a practice of revisiting and revising how things work for you.

I spent the 4.5 years that of IOF yelling into the void about taking your off-season, changing up your training, eating enough, and giving your self breaks and grace. All those resources and all the knowledge still exists here for you to read, share, and return to.

  • The website still houses all the blogs that I’ve written. You can click on the magnifying glass to search for specific topics or disappear down the rabbit hole.
  • All programs and products are available for access to all. Just click on the “Programs + Products” tab at the top and enter the price you can afford (yes, even $0 is okay!).
  • My journal for helping you improve your athletic mindset is still available on Amazon. Train Your Brain to Shut Up was my attempt to meet the mental needs of athletes, not just the physical ones. Click on the “My Book” tab to check it out.

The truth is: I didn’t PLAN on becoming a personal trainer for roller derby athletes.

But when I spent years trying everything under the sun with my own training and realizing the prevailing wisdom was not it. I was SO focused on becoming a better athlete, learning everything I could about exercise science, narrowly avoiding injuries, and still having time to do laundry and go grocery shopping.

Then I looked around and realized that IT WASN’T JUST ME. So many of my teammates and skater friends were going through the same shit.

We all wanted to be the best athletes we could be. But we were doing it at the expense of everything else.

I DON’T THINK YOU HAVE TO SPEND 10 HOURS IN THE GYM EVERY WEEK TO BE A BETTER ATHLETE.

HELL, I DON’T EVEN THINK YOU NEED TO SPEND 5 HOURS IN THE GYM EVERY WEEK TO BE A BETTER ATHLETE.

Iron Octopus Fitness STILL exists to help skaters focus their training, manage their schedules, and prioritize rest to skate and live their fucking lives.

We all have a million things pulling us in every direction:

  • families
  • league work
  • day jobs
  • house management
  • non-derby friends (or so I've heard...)

You have enough to worry about. I don’t want you to stress out about your training, I just want to empower you to DO IT. Whatever that looks like for you.
