“I didn’t do my training day today. I’m so lazy. LOLZ”

“I’m too lazy to go to the gym.”

“I’m lazy and don’t want to go to practice.”

I hear some variation of these statements from clients or loose on the internet EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. And it makes me want to scream. Because here’s the thing:

YOU ARE NOT LAZY.

I think lazy is a shit descriptor for most people, full stop. But I think it’s an especially awful way to explain what you might be feeling when you’re not feeling like doing anything. We throw around the word “lazy” like glitter confetti. To fall to Earth and cover everything it touches. And, much like glitter confetti, it can be hard to clean it off once we don’t want it around anymore.

Why? Why are you labeling yourself as lazy?

IT’S NOT LAZINESS.

Maybe you’re just tired? Maybe this is your body telling you that you need a break. Or that it doesn’t want to do this. Or that it’s sick of your shit. Perhaps, this lack of motivation and enthusiasm that you’re feeling is because you’re stressed to the nines and your body can’t handle anymore. No more physical activity, no more mental activity.

Just no more.

For now.

IT’S NOT LAZINESS.

Maybe you need recovery? The time in between activity. Where you avoid burnout and cultivate self-care. Where you get a chance to decide if it’s what you really want. If anything is what you really want. Perhaps, this lack of interest isn’t just a one-time thing. Or maybe it is.

The point is simply that if you never stop and reflect, you’ll never know.

IT’S NOT LAZINESS.

And every time you write it off as such, you send yourself a message. A message that devalues you and your right to take a fucking break every once in a while. A message that tells others that they must also be lazy if they can’t do all the things. A message the reverberates through more than just right here and right now.

You are not a machine. Your energy will ebb and flow. It’s not laziness to respect what your body is telling you.

YOU’RE NOT LAZY.

You’re a human being. Who needs time sometimes. So take it. ❤️❤️❤️
