For about 6 months now, I’ve been eyeing a sled on Amazon. There are a lot of reasons why I want one: my gym doesn’t have one, I hate traditional cardio, Ulysses — my pitbull — would love being hooked up to it. The real reason is that it’s crazy good for building strength, speed, and power all at the same time.Want to boost your athleticism? Sleds are for you.

Crunches are good. Sometimes. But if you want to prepare your core (and your entire body) for dynamic movement, it’s a good idea to branch out and find other moves. These are great for developing the kind of core strength that will transfer to the track and keep you from looking like one of those arm-flailing tube men. (NOTE: Weird that so many of these are unilateral. Hmmm.)
